How to add an AI chatbot to WooCommerce
About five minutes of setup, and ten more to check its answers before a shopper does. This guide uses Bozor Bot, but the preparation and the testing apply to any assistant that answers from your own store.
What you need
- WordPress 6.0 or later and PHP 7.4 or later.
- WooCommerce, if you want product recommendations. Without it the assistant still answers from your pages and posts.
- Permission to install plugins on the site — an administrator account.
Before you start: make the store answerable
An assistant that answers from your store can only be as good as what the store publishes. Ten minutes here saves a week of reading transcripts that say "I don't know".
- Publish the policies as pages. Delivery, returns, warranty and payment, each written the way you would explain it on the phone. A delivery time that only exists in your head cannot be retrieved.
- Put SKUs in the SKU field, not only in the description. Shoppers who know exactly what they want type the model number, and an exact search needs it in the product record.
- Set the stock status on every product. "Is it in stock?" is one of the most common questions, and the answer comes from that field.
- Describe products in plain words. A shopper asks for "something to froth milk", not "milk frother, 220V". A sentence on what the product is for gives a meaning-based search something to match.
Installing and connecting
-
Install the plugin
In WordPress go to Plugins → Add New, search for Bozor Bot, then install and activate it. You can also download it from its WordPress.org page.
-
Create a free account
Register at app.bozor-bot.com. The free plan needs no card.
-
Add the site and get a pairing code
In the dashboard choose Add a site, enter the store's address, then Generate a pairing code. Codes expire after ten minutes, so do the next step straight away.
-
Connect
Back in WordPress, open Settings → Bozor Bot, paste the code and press Connect. The first sync of products, pages and posts starts at once; a large catalogue takes a few minutes. The chat bubble appears on the storefront when it is connected.
Test it before your shoppers do
Open the storefront in a private window and ask the questions real shoppers ask. Five kinds cover most of them:
| Ask | A good answer |
|---|---|
| An exact SKU or model number | Finds that product, with its card |
| A vague need — "a gift for a coffee lover" | Suggests products that fit, not the bestsellers |
| A budget — "under $50" | Stays under it, with the real prices shown |
| Delivery or returns | Matches what your policy page says |
| Something your store does not cover | Says it does not know, instead of inventing an answer |
The last one matters most. An assistant that invents a delivery time is worse than no assistant, because the shopper believes it. When Bozor Bot cannot answer, it says so and adds the question to the Q&A tab in your dashboard.
The first reply after a quiet spell can take up to a minute while the service wakes; the widget shows "Waking up…" while it does, and the replies after that are quick.
Make it look like your store
The Widget tab sets the accent colour, the position, the greeting and the launcher label, with a live preview. Nothing in your theme changes, and the widget is under 15 KB, so it does not slow the page down.
The first week
- Read the conversations. They are the closest thing to standing behind the counter: what people ask about a product before they buy it, in their own words.
- Answer the gaps once. Every question the assistant could not answer is in Q&A → Needs an answer. Write one line and every later shopper gets it. You get an email when new ones arrive, at most one an hour.
- Sync after big changes. The catalogue is synced every night. After a price change or a new policy, press Sync now on the site so the assistant has it immediately.
Privacy
Only published content is shared: products, pages and posts. Drafts, private posts, orders and customer records are never read. The widget sets no cookies. The plugin adds suggested wording for your own privacy policy under Settings → Privacy → Policy Guide. The full detail is in the privacy policy.
What to look for in any WooCommerce chatbot
Whichever assistant you choose, these are the questions that separate one that sells from one that embarrasses you:
- Where do the prices on screen come from? If the language model writes them, sooner or later it will write a wrong one. They should come from the store's database.
- What does it do when it does not know? It should say so, and tell you, rather than improvise.
- Does it answer from your content or from the internet? Your returns policy, not a typical one.
- How heavy is the widget? A chat script that adds half a megabyte to every page costs you in search rankings and in shoppers on slow phones.
- What happens at the plan limit? A pause you are told about, or an overage bill you are not.
- What can it read? Published content should be enough. An assistant does not need your orders or customer list to recommend a product.
We have put two popular alternatives through these questions: Bozor Bot vs Tidio and Bozor Bot vs Chatbase. And if you sell electronics, beauty products or clothing, there is a page on the questions your shoppers ask most.
Try it on your own store
The free plan is enough to read a few days of real conversations and decide whether it is worth keeping.
